I've just joined the forum so 'hello!' to everyone :)

Now, I have recently bought a Van Diemen RF86 FF2000, which I know isn't eligible for either Historic or URS, but I wanted a winter project and will doubtless be posting requests for various things in the course of the next few weeks/months/years (delete as appropriate!)

The car came in from the USA and has a nice, documented history as being ex-Paul Tracy. Other than having had quite a 'life' over the pond, it is complete and I was fortunate to get a load of spares, too.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum! :D

I think you will find that there is a mine of information here and a lot of friendly contributors who will be most helpful to you during and after your project.

I have always had genuinely good advice from people who have answered my technical question on this forum.

Best.

Greg Guille.

PS I think this post is slightly misplaced and perhaps admins could pop it in the "Classic FF2000" place?

This all sounds very interesting . We have an &6 in the Delta stable as well . I guess Alan will bump this thread over into Classic site. Maybe our URS brothers will take note and let you race with them. BTW 86 cars are allowed to race with Derek Bell

Happy for it to be moved!

Currently the car is completely stripped and parts laid out in (reasonably..) logical order. The chassis is booked-in for some work as it's had a couple of earlier repairs that I'm not happy with. Then it will be onto fresh powder-coat, new panels and into the rebuild proper.

The engine was reputedly rebuilt before the car was stored (6-7 years ago) so is also lined-up for attention. It turns over by hand - always a good sign - and has compression. The car came with 3 spare heads, although I haven't unwrapped these as yet so no idea of they're standard, worked-on or just big doorstops!

It's been ages since I had a race-car to fiddle with...the last one was an FF1600 RF87 when they were new...and it's great :D

Personally I’d like to see an Invitation class. I’ll discuss the concept further with Ken.

Good move Drew,
I campaigned for many years to get these cars included, but as you can see, without success. Hopefully you'll be more successful as I still believe it is the way forward.

Brief update - suspension parts back from replating and looking good, spent last few days going over the gearbox and cleaning/checking CV joints.

Loads of new fasteners arrived from Trident and various replacement bearings also purchased. Can't wait for chassis to get sorted so I can start the rebuild!!

Good to hear the rebuild is progressing!

Those mid-Eighties Van Diemens were really nice cars (as were the Reynards of similar vintage). Did you discuss the possibility of an invitation class in URS with Ken, Drew?
